Celebrate June and Adopt-a-Cat Month with the Waterville Area Humane Society, the Waterville Public Library and Waterville Creates. We will create vibrant cat portraits inspired by works by Laurel Burch using tempura sticks, markers, and more. We will also make ball toys to donate to the cats at the Waterville Area Humane Society. And, there will be an Art Kits for All project to take home.
As part of its program, Waterville Creates is joining forces with the Waterville Public Library and the Colby College Museum of Art to create one-of-a-kind summer art journals in collaboration with a free summer reading series. Program guests will include artists, musicians, live cats, teachers, and scientists. Every Thursday, we’ll create new pages to add to the summer art journals. Journals can be brought back each week, resulting in a fun and distinctive nature journal that documents your entire summer. Watch a “how to” demonstration of each project, then make your own creation at Head of Falls in downtown Waterville as you listen to a read-along of the book Tale of Tiger Slippers by Jan Brett. Bring a blanket or chair to get comfortable while listening and creating content for your journal.
This program is free and open to all ages and levels of experience. We will reschedule or cancel in the event of rain.
