Woodsmen’s teams from five Maine, New Hampshire and Canadian colleges and universities will convene at Colby College in Waterville on Saturday, March 10, for Colby’s Spring Mud Meet. Competition begins at 9 a.m. in the woodsmen’s area between the Alfond Athletic Center and the varsity soccer field. Events run until 4 p.m., rain or shine.

Female and male competitors from Colby, Unity College, the University of Maine at Orono, the University of New Hampshire and the University of New Brunswick will participate in singles, doubles and team events, with several of the schools fielding more than one team.

Singles events include ax throwing, pole climbing, chain throwing and sawing. Pairs will compete in horizontal chopping and quarter splitting events. Team competition includes chopping and sawing relay, two-person cross-cut sawing, a pulp pit relay and a pack-board and water-boiling relay.

Spectators are welcome. All events have roots in skills and activities that are part of traditional logging operations.
