On Saturday, September 7, the Portland String Quartet, artists-in-residence at Colby, will open the 2002-03 Music at Colby Concert Series with a free concert. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Lorimer Chapel on the Waterville campus and is open to the public free of charge.

The concert program will feature Franz Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in D Minor, Op. 76, No. 2, Fritz Kreisler’s String Quartet in A Minor and Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet in F Major, Op. 18, No. 1. The Portland String Quartet includes violist Julia Adams, violinists Stephen Kecskemethy and Ronald Lantz and cellist Paul Ross. The group was founded in 1969 and currently is celebrating its 34th season without a change in personnel. The ensemble has played together longer than any U.S. quartet except the Guarneri.
