More than 200 Colby College students, staff, faculty and family volunteers are expected to participate in the seventh annual Colby Cares Day, which will take place in the greater Waterville area on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Colby Volunteer Center, which coordinates student volunteer activities throughout the year.

This year, volunteers will take part in approximately 15 different projects for local organizations, assisting with painting, gardening, yard work and other tasks. Volunteers also will run a sports day for elementary school children in Colby’s Alfond Athletic Center.

Colby Cares Day is the culmination of National Volunteer Week, April 27 to May 3, an annual celebration of volunteerism at the local, state and national levels. The theme for National Volunteer Week 2003 is “Celebrate Volunteers–The Spirit of America!”
