Harold Alfond, founder of the Dexter Shoe Co. and philanthropist whose foundation donated more than $100 million, died November 16. “After the sale of Dexter, Mr. Alfond and his wife, the former Dorothy Levine [’38], stepped up their philanthropy, including gifts for construction projects at Colby College, the University of Maine, Boston College, the University of Massachusetts and many other colleges.”
