Colby College will conduct the second test of its new emergency siren on Tuesday, May 13, between 1 and 3 p.m. The test will include loud tones and a voice message that is expected to be audible within about two miles of Colby. It may sound multiple times.

Tragic school shootings around the country have prompted colleges and universities nationwide to reassess and bolster emergency response plans. Colby has had such a plan in place for many years and has reevaluated its components regularly. Adding the siren broadens Colby’s ability to alert students, faculty, visitors and the Colby community of a potential life-threatening emergency.

Except for infrequent planned tests, the siren would be used only in the event of an actual threat of violence, environmental danger, or other threat to public safety.
