Scores of students were recognized for academic achievement and other contributions to the community at the third annual Colby Student Awards ceremony in Lorimer Chapel Tuesday, May 3. Aleah J. Starr ’11 was named 2011 senior class commencement speaker, meaning she will address the commencement convocation May 22. A full list of awards is online as a PDF.
Twenty-seven academic departments and programs presented academic awards to their majors, and students received awards in student life, student affairs, and student organizations categories. Also acknowledged were Phi Beta Kappa inductees and scholastic achievement award recipients, three Fulbright grant recipients, and the winner of a Watson Fellowship, Toni Tsvetanova ’11.
Assistant Professor of Philosophy James Behuniak Jr. won the senior class Charles Bassett Teaching Award and will deliver his address at 3 p.m. May 16 in the Lovejoy Building’s room 100. Director of Campus Life Jed Wartman was honored by students with three awards: the Colby Service Award, the SGA Service Award, and the Pugh Community Board Commitment to Multiculturalism Award, the latter also won by Assistant Professor of Spanish Emma Garcia.
