Colby’s campus sustained only minor damage from Irene, which was downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it reached Maine Aug. 28.

Physical Plant Department employees came to campus Sunday, during the height of the storm, to ensure that roadways were clear of broken tree branches and to deal with a large maple tree near West Quad, part of which broke off and caused minor damage to slate shingles on the residence building. Crews took down the remainder of the tree for safety. Winds uprooted two willows and a small birch near Johnson Pond and broke the trunk of another large willow. No one was injured.
