A multidisciplinary study of the Belgrade Lakes watershed with the goal of keeping water quality and the general environment healthy is gaining notice around the state. Miselis Professor of Chemistry D. Whitney King and Professor of Economics Michael Donihue ’79 lead studies of the environmental health of the Belgrade Lakes and the economic impact of the lakes on the state and regional economy.

Maine Public Broadcasting aired a story August 23, “Project Aims to Reverse Decline of Maine’s Belgrade Lakes,” and the Morning Sentinel published a story Sept. 5, “Study Shows Population Around Belgrade Lakes Watershed Decreasing.” The stories cite Donihue, King, and student researchers Nicholas Papanastassiou ’13 and Caitlin Vorlicek ’14
