Professor Jim Fleming, a leading scholar of climate geoengineering, will speak at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C., Sept. 10. The panel discussion is titled “Blocking the Sun: Will Solar Geoengineering Research Increase or Decrease the Risk of Climate Change.” Update September 2013: The event attracted an audience of 500 and was covered in the Sept. 24 entry of the Sustainability: Science, Practice, & Policy blog.
Fleming is professor of science, technology, and society at Colby. This Oct. 7-9 he is convening an international conference on technology and public policy at Colby supported by the Goldfarb Center. In 2009 he organized an international conference, Climate and Cultural Anxiety, which brought 32 international scholars to Colby to discuss historical perspectives on climate change.
