Two Colby students will present original research about marine conservation issues at the International Marine Conservation Congress in Glasgow, Scotland, Aug. 14-18. Samantha Lovell ’16 is the presenting author on a project titled “Restoration of Historical Fisheries and Ecosystem Services: Alewife Fisheries in Maine,” evaluating the return of the anadromous species following dam removal and other restoration efforts in the state. Elizabeth McCormack ’15 will present her analysis of historical observations of sharks in waters around Cape Cod, Mass., to put recent increases in shark sightings in a long-term context. Ainslie Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Loren McClenachan will also participate in the meetings.
