A Maine native and the son of a carpenter, artist Bernard Langlais grew up surrounded by the material—wood—that would become his signature medium. Currently on view at the Colby College Museum of Art is the artist’s first retrospective exhibition, featuring pieces from private collections and from the museum’s own holdings. Museum goers are introduced to Langlais’s work immediately upon arrival, as some of his Expressionist-themed pieces have been incorporated into the sleek lobby design. The exhibition progresses chronologically, featuring his later folk art in the final rooms.
