Professional meteorologist, Colby Jan Plan professor, and Alumni Council member David Epstein ’86 examines the relationship between fear and truth within the contexts of the Ebola outbreak and climate change. Epstein says truth is often subjective, and rather malleable, as demonstrated by the rapidly evolving protocols for Ebola treatment. Epstein recently enjoyed a discussion with four Colby seniors that led to rumination on rising ocean levels, carbon emissions, computerized weather predictions, and civility.
