Award-winning multilingual poet Maria Luisa Arroyo ’89 is running the Vitamin P for Poetry series in Springfield, Mass. Upcoming events include a poetry workshop Nov. 15 and a public poetry reading Dec. 13. Arroyo became Springfield’s poet laureate in September and is the city’s first Hispanic poet laureate. Upon being honored with the title at a city council meeting, she said, “This honor is for the community, not just for me. I am very proud of being from the North End and attending Springfield public schools and being a Latina getting this recognition.”

Arroyo has published two collections of poetry, Touching and Naming the Roots of This Tree and Gathering Words: Recogiendo Palabras.
