Dr. Paul Berkner, medical director at Colby and president of the Maine Concussion Management Initiative (MCMI), and Billy Parker ’17, whose football career was cut short by a concussion last year, took part in a Q&A on concussions Sunday, Nov. 23, in Portland.
They discussed how to recognize concussion symptoms, how to manage concussed athletes, and the protocol for returning to school and sports following a concussion.
“This is our first road show,” said Berkner. “We’ve done upward of seventy-five one-hour educational programs. We’ve done probably twenty provider trainings. But we’ve never done this sort of public question-and-answer venue before.”
“We’re trying to get the word out and raise awareness,” Parker added.
