Victor Chen ’12 was featured in College Xpress’s stories of multicultural students who bring a unique perspective and diversity of thought and experiences to the American colleges and universities they attend.

Raised in Guangzhou, China, Chen and his mother moved to the United States when he was 16. Through his hard work he was awarded a Posse Foundation scholarship to attend a highly selective U.S. college, and he chose Colby.

“I liked the resources provided by Colby,” he said. “They helped me grow personally and professionally. Since I had only been in the U.S. for two years before entering Colby, I was not particularly well prepared for the American college experience, the social climate, and the academic rigor.”

Chen thrived at Colby, and after graduation he joined international investment corporation BlackRock. He also volunteers for the National Association of Asian American Professionals, where he focuses on scholarships and mentorships for kids who are in a similar position to where he was a few years ago.
