Pulver Family Associate Professor of Jewish Studies David Freidenreich published an essay, “Flipping a Jewish Studies Classroom,” on the pedagogy website for the Association for Jewish Studies on March 19. The essay explores Freidenreich’s process of revising his Conceptions of Jews and Judaism course, in which he introduced technology to ensure students’ comprehension of the material. He found that pre-class online lectures were successful not only in augmenting student understanding of the subject matter, but also in improving students’ critical-reading abilities. Freidenreich’s essay will be featured in the upcoming issue of AJS News. For more information, visit the AJS pedagogy website.
