After gunmen from terrorist group Al Shabaab stormed a university in Garissa, Kenya, April 2, killing 147 people, Assistant Professor of Government Laura Seay (@texasinafrica) noted on Twitter the sacrifice a Kenyan family makes to send a student to college, especially in Garissa, a city closer to Kenya’s eastern desert frontier than it is to almost any major city.

“How much hope is put in that potential…today’s loss is immeasurable,” Seay tweeted.
