Professor James Rodger Fleming, director of the Science, Technology, and Society Program at Colby, was honored in April with an outstanding alumni award from the Colorado State University department of atmospheric science. Recipients of the awards are former students who, by their distinguished careers and service to the college, university, state, nation, or world, have brought honor to themselves and to the College of Engineering at Colorado State.
Fleming, author of more than a half dozen books including definitive works on the history of meteorology and the future of climate engineering, earned his bachelor’s degree at Penn State and a master’s of science in atmospheric science at Colorado State before earning an M.A. and a Ph.D. in the history of science at Princeton. He joined Colby’s faculty in 1988.
