On view at the Colby College Museum of Art May 20-July 12, Young Curators: Art in the Making will feature original artworks by Waterville and Winslow high school students. The exhibition is the result of the museum’s Young Curators program, which provides local students with immersion in museum practice.

Participants in the program met at the museum once a week in March, April, and May, exploring art historical research methods, learning fundamental components of curatorial practice and exhibition design, and speaking with an array of museum staff members—including those in curatorial, administrative, education, and collections roles—in order to gain knowledge of the museum as a whole and of the variety of career paths in the arts.

Each artwork in the exhibition is related in some way to art in the museum’s collection, and the students installed the exhibit themselves using what they had learned about curatorial practice and design.
