On May 18 painter and Maine summer resident Alex Katz came to the Colby College Museum of Art to curate one of the museum’s summer exhibitions, An Artist’s Gift: Acquisitions from the Alex Katz Foundation. Through the foundation, Katz has donated more than 450 modern and contemporary artworks to the museum since 2004. About 70 are on display in An Artist’s Gift.
Regarding curating the exhibit, Katz said, “It’s all just instinct. Each painting is comfortable in its own space. You have to get the right paintings in the right space. And you don’t know until you do it.”
The show is on view through Sept. 6, 2015.
