The Quarry Road Recreational Area, in Waterville is the go-to spot for cross-country skiing in central Maine, the Portland Press Herald reports. The 200-acre recreational area about a mile from campus draws skiers and snowshoers with seven miles of trails and snow-making capabilities. The trails, designed by John Morton, a two-time Olympian biathlete who has developed trails across the country, are used by Colby Nordic skiers and area residents. “Those trails are beautiful,” Oakland resident Paul Begley said of the snowshoe trails. “For people in Maine, this is a gem. It can challenge any ability.”
