A story in Forbes magazine makes it clear that Colby’s dedication to athletics, and its opening of the new Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center, is bold and defies the approach other schools are taking in the midst of the pandemic. “The athletic facility, now the largest in Division III and in the entire Northeast, is a wise investment,” reporter Kurt Bandenhausen wrote. “Sports are a key part of Colby’s success, with one-third of Colby’s students recruited as varsity athletes, while nearly everyone else participates in club or intramural sports, as well as other recreational activities,” the story continues.
