Whether your student is at Colby now or graduated many years ago, parents are an active part of the Colby community. Check out this list and see how many ways you can connect with Colby.
1. Speak with a future Colby student.
One of the best ways to support Colby is simply to talk with young people and their families about your experience on Mayflower Hill and how it changed your student for the better. Your niece, your son’s classmate, or the neighbor’s kid could be a perfect fit for Colby—and you can steer them in the right direction.
2. Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
Whether you live down the street or across the globe, parents stay connected and informed through social media. Like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter and you’ll be clued in to news, campus pictures, special events, and more.
3. Wear your Colby gear proudly.
It’s exciting to meet another Colby person just because they happened to be wearing a Colby hat or sweatshirt. Your Colby gear is both a point of pride and a conversation-starter, a sign to the world that no matter where you live or when your student graduated, you’re part of the Colby family forever. The best Colby gear is always available at Colby Bookstore.
4. Make your gift to the Parent Fund.
Be one of more than 1,500 parents supporting Colby students by making an annual gift to the Parent Fund. Did you know that 25 percent of the funds raised each year are from parents? Every gift matters. We know you’ve heard this one before, but it bears repeating—the earlier you make your annual gift to Colby, the sooner we can put it to work. Supporting the Parent Fund early saves money and builds momentum that results in more parent participation.
5. Update your contact information with the Parent Office.
Keeping your contact information up to date ensures you do not miss regular updates sent to parents, including the monthly Parents Out of the Blue Newsletter. Have you moved recently or changed your email address? Contact the Parent Office at email@example.com to update your information.
Parents can support Colby athletes whether they’re at home or on the road. Check the athletics website for schedules and news. Can’t make it to a game? Join in by watching online. You can stream select athletic events on your computer, for free. With the support of parents, alumni, and friends C Club continues a long-standing tradition to support Colby athletics.
7. Attend an on-campus event.
Sometimes there’s just no substitute for being here. Annual events include Move-in Day, Family Homecoming Weekend, and Commencement. In 2017, more than 1,200 parents, alumni, and friends returned to Mayflower Hill for Family Homecoming. Celebrating along with students, parents attended academic events, receptions, and campus tours. See the latest schedule information for Colby’s 196th Commencement.
8. Join us at an event in your area.
Colby parents live and work all over the world, so whether you live in Boston or Tokyo, chances are there are some mules (or future mules) nearby. In additional to parent regional events, there are a number of opportunities for parents to participate in events with alumni throughout the year. See the calendar of upcoming events.
Did you know that giving back is one of the habits of happy people? You can take advantage of that by mentoring students or serving as a parent volunteer. Whether you’re raising expectations or money, you’ll know you’re making a difference. For more information about opportunities to volunteer with Colby, visit our volunteer page.
10. Send us your questions and feedback.
The Parent Office is always looking to improve our communication to best keep parents informed about what your student’s are doing on campus. Do you have a question and are not finding what you need on the website? Would you like to get involved but are not sure where to start? Just fire off an e-mail to the Parent Office.
