Mission
The Center for Teaching and Learning at Colby College enhances intellectual engagement across the liberal arts curriculum through programs and services that promote creativity, collaboration, and reflective practices that support effective teaching and learning for faculty and students.
Vision
The Center for Teaching and Learning strives to collaboratively address teaching and learning needs at Colby and be a leader in national conversations about innovative teaching and learning at small, liberal arts colleges.
Values
The work of Center for Teaching and Learning is grounded within the
- literature and scholarship on effective teaching and learning,
- experience of the CTL staff,
- experiences of Colby faculty and students,
- and through collaborative relationships that support teaching and learning at Colby.
Role of Advisory Board
Advise CTL director to ensure that Center programs and services
- reflect the values of the Colby academic culture,
- embrace differences in teaching and learning,
- invite voluntary participation in non-evaluative experiences,
- create energy through collaboration and coordination with other academic support offices, and
- rely on evidence from pedagogical scholarship, learning theories, and the Colby experience.
