Lactation Rooms
Lactation Rooms
Supporting members of our Colby community as well as visitors to campus throughout their pregnancy and breastfeeding journey is important to the college. To support these needs, the college has designated lactation spaces on campus as follows:
- Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts, Room 152
- Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center, Room D219
- Schair-Swenson-Watson Alumni Center, Room 059
Use of lactation rooms is on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to these designated spaces, faculty and staff private offices may also be used for this purpose.
In line with federal and state requirements, the college provides a nursing parent reasonable break time as needed to express milk for up to one year after the child’s birth. Employees should communicate and discuss their needs with their manager or supervisor to agree upon adjustments in work schedules.
Lactation rooms in the Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts as well as the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center are equipped with refrigerators for storing breast milk and pumping accessories. Other items should not be stored in these refrigerators. Each parent is solely responsible for any items, including breast milk, that they choose to leave in a lactation room.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to contact [email protected] or Mary Swain (207-859-5503) with questions at any time.
