From the President
For two centuries, Colby has brought together scholars and students to explore complex ideas, shape fields of knowledge, and deepen our understanding of an ever-changing world. Today, Mayflower Hill remains the ideal setting for this collaborative academic experience and the hub from where we connect our research, teaching, and learning to places far beyond our campus.
At Colby we are committed to a new model of liberal arts education, one that provides an extraordinary intellectual and creative experience on campus and is increasingly relevant through meaningful experiences that position our graduates to solve the most vexing issues of our time.
Colby is leading the way in this approach by integrating an academic course of study with purposeful experiences in work, research, and global issues. These are part of a broader set of efforts that have fueled innovative academic initiatives, a sharp increase in the demand for a Colby education, a partnership with the city of Waterville that is resulting in a historic level of economic and cultural development, and a surge of philanthropic momentum that will ensure the endurance of our unique model of liberal arts education.
The Colby student experience is intentionally focused to drive intellectual discovery. It begins with the relationships our students develop with an exceptional faculty. A diverse, inclusive campus culture, a thriving arts community, a commitment to civic engagement, and a focus on healthy, active living in our beautiful setting all enhance our students’ learning, growth, and discovery.
From this position of strength, Colby is building on its reputation as one of the world’s truly admired institutions of higher learning. I am honored to be Colby’s president through this latest transformation—one that demonstrates the power and value of a liberal arts education.
President David A. Greene
