The Learning Assistant Program
The Learning Assistant Program immerses Faculty/Staff Partners and student Learning Assistants in a guided partnership to support the successful implementation of active and inclusive pedagogical strategies to enhance learning for all students. Due to high demand, the LA Program application process is competitive, and successful applicants will need to describe how they plan to develop and include active and inclusive pedagogical strategies in their courses.
Faculty/Staff Partners are matched with a student Learning Assistant. These students serve a different role than teaching assistants or tutors: Learning Assistants participate as pedagogical partners. In the classroom they offer assistance in the implementation of active and inclusive pedagogies. Outside of the classroom, the partnership offers valuable insight on the learning experience by reflecting on the course and developing new course materials and activities. The Center for Teaching and Learning guides the partnership, offering intense course design and pedagogical support.
Selected Faculty/Staff Partners work with the CTL to select a Learning Assistant for their course using an application-based process.
