Personal Information
Andrea is a feminist youth studies scholar whose work examines how youth in the U.S. come to understand themselves and their identities in and through the social spaces that shape their lives. Her research foregrounds the narratives of youth as they confront the social and cultural expectations of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, religion, and class. In particular, Andrea's research draws on critical race studies and critical studies of multiculturalism to examine how multigenerational white youth and Black youth from recently immigrated East African families narrate their racial-ethnic identities in relation to each other and in the shifting demographic context of non-urban Maine.
