Dr. Forsman is an ecological immunologist (or eco-immunologist), which means that she is interested in how the vertebrate immune system develops and functions “in the wild”. Dr. Forsman’s research integrates the fields of immunology, microbiology, and life history theory to understand how wild animals (particularly birds) interact with the microorganisms that live in, on, and around them. Her lab group’s primary study systems include purple martins, tree swallows, and Florida scrub jays.
