Personal Information

A native of Islesford, ME, pianist Christina Spurling began her career as a classroom music teacher and choir director in Amesbury, MA. In 2017 she earned the Master of Music degree in collaborative piano performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, MA and the Bachelor of Arts in music from Gordon College (MA) in 2010. As a Longy Presidential Scholar, Christina studied accompanying, chamber music and opera with Brian Moll. Her other piano teachers include Rieko Aizawa, Michael Monroe, Mia Chung, Alina Polyakov, Ginger Hwalek and Paul Sullivan. She has served as rehearsal pianist for the Boston Opera Collaborative, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and the Bagaduce Chorale. She performed with the Cape Ann Symphony, as accompanist for the Newburyport Candlelight Chorale, Acadia Choral Society and as a soloist with the Bagaduce Chorale. With a passion for chamber music and community, Christina founded the Quietside Chamber Music Festival in the summer of 2018 on Mount Desert Island, collaborating mainly with local musicians or those with roots in downeast Maine. Through her love of teaching she has facilitated and coached young ensembles with the Newburyport Chamber Music Festival, Bay Chamber's Envision program and the Arthur Russell Strings. Christina continues her career as performer, collaborator and teacher in the vibrant area of Mount Desert Island where her musical aspirations were first nurtured as a young pianist. She is a piano instructor and collaborative pianist at Colby College, music director at the Somesville Union Meeting House UCC and teaches piano lessons from her home studio on Mount Desert Island.
