T&D Majors Dancing with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company
Theater and Dance Majors Leah Bilodeau ’17, Julia Borges ’18, and Kathryn Butler ’17 will be performing alongside professional dancers from the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company in Continuous Replay, one of the three pieces in the company’s program Play and Play presented tonight by Portland Ovations at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, ME. The dancers learned the piece, which is a structured accumulation of 47 gestures, in two intensive rehearsals. In performance, they will be improvising compositional choices as they join and diverge from the original movement, maintained by the role of the “Clock” performed by company member Jenna Riegel (who was a guest artist in the Department of Theater and Dance on Monday and Tuesday). Students from the departments of Theater and Dance, Anthropology, African American Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies will travel to Portland to see the performance, celebrating the three Colby students’ involvement and encountering the work of one of America’s most highly accoladed contemporary companies. Theater and Dance Professor Annie Kloppenberg will give the pre-show talk, presented by Portland Ovations.
