Alumni In the Field
Colby Theater and Dance Alums find outlets to exhibit their talents and skills in the field, in Maine and beyond.
The Sound Inside, a world premiere play featuring Will Hochman ’14 has been included in The New York Times’ annual list of the best theater of 2018. Written by Adam Rapp and Directed by David Cromer, the play explores the journey of a Yale professor and writer (played by Mary-Lousie Parker) who receives a cancer diagnosis and navigates this new chapter of life by way of her craft, while one of her students (played by Hochman) accompanies her in her journeys, both lived and literary. The New York Times describes the show as ‘astonishing’ and ‘thrilling (in) its full engagement with tragedy.’ The Sound Inside premiered as part of the Williamstown Theater Festival in Williamstown, Massachusetts in Summer of 2018.
The full review of the play can be found here, while the complete Best Theater of 2018 list can be found here. Congratulations, Will!
In addition, Sean Senior ’10 makes his directing debut at Lyric Music Theater in South Portland, Maine, with their production of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. As a student, Sean was involved in a variety of Department programming, in addition to related student groups such as Powder & Wig and Broadway Musical Review; his activities culminated in his reception of the Theater and Dance Award for 2010. Sean says his favorite part of directing is the opportunities it provides to teach others about the craft of theater. Congratulations, Sean, on bringing your talents to the larger Maine community!
White Christmas is showing now through December 16, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m., at Lyric Music Theater (76 Sawyer Street, South Portland). More information is available at http://lyricmusictheater.org.
