Colby Theater and Dance Faculty Bess Welden and Christine Nilles will collaborate on Dramatic Repertory Company’s production of FABULOSO by John Kolvenbach at Portland Stage!
On March 8-17, Portland Stage’s Studio Theater, Portland-based Dramatic Rep will present the Maine premiere of FABULOSO. Teaching artist at Colby Theater and Dance Department, Bess Welden will perform in the production, alternating the role of Kate and Samantha each night. Christine Nilles, the Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designer at Colby College, is in charge of costume creation and coordination.
A glimpse into FABULOSO: Our leading character, Kate, is a bank worker, and is married to Teddy, an uninspired soccer coach. They are feeling trapped in an ordinary apartment and their ordinary marriage. One day, Teddy’s long-lost friend Arthur arrives after a 20-year absence. He bursts into their home with nonstop games, ruses, schemes, not to mention knives, songs, cocktails for all, and his wildly dramatic fiancée, Samantha. FABULOSO is a madcap and surprisingly touching farce about the pleasures of bedlam and the far-from-ordinary feeling of being needed. DRC’s production of this zany comedy includes even more delightful chaos: the cast will switch roles each night.
In addition to Bess Welden (performer) and Christine Nilles (costume design), the show also features DRC veterans Peter Brown, Chris Holt, Janice O’Rourke, and is directed by Daniel Burson. The stellar design team includes Emily Dixon (set), Matt Kennedy (sound), Michaela Wirth (lights), Vanessa SW Beyland (Choreography) and Katie Day (props), all under the leadership of stage manager Andrew Hesselbart.
