Research with Human Subjects (IRB)

The Colby Institutional Review Board (IRB) ensures that all research conducted by Colby faculty and students complies with laws and guidelines regarding the ethical treatment of human subjects. Therefore, all Colby-sponsored research involving human participants must be reviewed and approved by the IRB before data collection can begin. Research with Animal Subjects (IACUC)

To undertake research on vertebrate animals at Colby, you must undergo health screening, lab safety and animal husbandray training, and your project must be approved by the Colby Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). You will find all the required forms and information on Colby’s IACUC website.

National Institutes of Health Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare. Colby’s animal facility is accredited by this office. They set the national standards for animal care and oversee adherence to federally-regulated standards for the care and use of vertebrate animals in research.

American Association for Laboratory Animal Science. As a member of this association, Colby ensures the proper training of all personnel for the best care and treatment of laboratory animals.

Foundation for Biomedical Research. This organization promotes education and awareness about the ethical use and treatment of animals in research.
