ST297J Epidemics in History: from the Black Death to Ebola
This course looks at the role of epidemics in human history from ancient times to the present. By means of four in-depth case studies, the course will employ multiple methods from the sciences, social sciences, and humanities to assess epidemics in the past and their meanings for the present in a global context, from the Byzantine Empire to modern central Africa. Students will develop skills in discussion, analysis, research, writing, and presentation.
