On an annual basis, Colby requires all students to certify proof of health insurance coverage. In furtherance of the College’s 100% health insurance coverage mandate, Colby has a Health Insurance plan for students, which is actually administered by Cross Insurance, College Health Division, 217 Main St., Lewiston, ME 04240. This Colby Health Insurance plan will be billed to students by default if the Health Insurance Registration Form is not completed by the prescribed deadline(s) explained below.
For students who are going to be enrolled in a college-billed program for the fall semester, the mandatory Health Insurance Registration Form must be completed annually by August 1st, or the student’s account will be billed automatically the non-refundable $1,669 premium fee for full-year coverage (2017-18).
Note: Due to the recent passage of the Affordable Care Act, the premium cost for the Colby-sponsored Health Insurance has increased for both the full-year and spring-only coverage, beginning with the 2012-2013 academic year, and will continue to do so going forward.
For students who will be enrolled in a college-billed program for the spring semester only, the annual Health Insurance Registration Form must be completed by January 1st, or the student’s account will be billed automatically the non-refundable $1,002 premium fee for spring coverage only (spring 2018).
The Health Insurance Registration Form has the following three elections:
- I have insurance; I waive Colby’s insurance (proof of coverage comparable to Colby Health Insurance must be provided)
- I have NO insurance; I cannot waive Colby’s insurance
- I have other insurance, but I also want Colby’s insurance (and will pay for this coverage)
Students electing to waive Colby’s insurance coverage must provide proof of comparable coverage to the plan offered by Colby through Cross Insurance. The following information must be provided on the Health Insurance Registration Form: the student’s name, policy number, contact information and related insurance details. To access the form, students or parents must login using the student’s Colby login and date of birth (MMDDYY).
