If you are committed to the study of foreign languages and cultures, the Spanish Department is dedicated to deepening your understanding of what it means to be a global citizen. We will prepare you for active and respectful engagement in the Spanish-speaking world, both within the United States and abroad.

In our literature, film, and popular culture classes, we teach our students to explore issues such as race, class, gender, sexuality, and immigration within specific social, political, and historical contexts.

About half of Colby students fulfill the all-college language requirement with Spanish, the national language in twenty countries and the second language of the United States.
