On Friday November 30 and Saturday December 1, The Department of Theater and Dance put on its annual student and faculty showcase Fall Performance Projects, in Strider Theater.
With Associate Professor and Department Chair Annie Kloppenberg serving as Artistic Director, Fall Performane Projects included new works by four student choreographers; highlighted First Year students in the First Year theater and dance projects directed by senior majors Gabriella Foster ’19 and Kaylee Pomelow ’19; and featured a powerful solo by Visiting Assistant Professor Tsiambwom Akuchu. The series of presentations came together to create a beautiful mosaic of performances that highlighted products of curricular creative research that emphasized experimentation, collaboration, and hybridity.
Performances included excerpts from the plays ‘The Elephant’s Graveyard’ and ‘Almost, Maine,’ student dance performances that illustrated the tribulations of natural disasters and the vitality of life in Houston, Texas, and a one-person dance piece that explored the history of the Black experience in the United States.
Guests were moved by the performances of the evening – and Opening Night guests enjoyed the gala reception and photo booth that followed the show!
