Colby owns 10 acres including 450 feet of lakefront on Messalonskee Lake seven miles from the campus. Students have full access to facilities including a picnic area with charcoal grills, a small beach for swimming, croquet, horseshoes, and two small bath/changing houses. A woodworking shop and blacksmith’s forge are used mainly for Jan Plan courses, and a boathouse is used by varsity crew teams to store rowing shells.


quarry 2Quarry Road Recreation Area

The Quarry Road Recreation Area, located within walking distance of campus, offers six miles of groomed cross-country ski trails, including an FIS-certified race course, all with snowmaking capability. Colby’s Nordic ski team competes and practices on the trails during the winter, and students can take advantage of the recreation area year-round for skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, running, biking, and rock climbing.
