Participation in RecycleMania

Colby began participating in RecycleMania, a waste reduction competition among universities across the nation in 2006. Over a ten week period, Colby competed against other colleges and universities to collect the largest amount of recyclables, produce the least amount of trash, and have the highest recycling rate.

Nike Reuse a Shoe

Starting in 2004, the student organization EnviroCo began recycling athletic shoes through Nike's "Reuse a Shoe" program.  Athletic shoes can be brought to the collection box in the lobby of the athletic center.  The shoes must be of an athletic style and not contain any metal fixtures or hard plastic soles.  The shoes should also be free of large amounts of dirt.

Nike grinds up different parts of the shoe and sole material to make a variety of athletic surfaces such as basketball courts, tennis courts, and running tracks.
