Dan Siff

Dan joined Colby in 2002 as a Network Specialist in the Information Technology Services (ITS). Through an increased focus on network and data security he took on the role of convening an ITS Information Systems and Data Security working group in 2006. He became Colby’s first Director of Information Security in 2011, working with teams within ITS and departments across the campus on information security policy and technology initiatives. Dan became the ITS Director of Systems and Network Operations team in 2014, expanded in 2017 as Enterprise Services, responsible for the management of Colby’s campus data and telephone networks, servers, data centers, desktop computing and core application and cloud services. He served as interim Chief Information Officer in 2022 and took on the role of Associate Chief Information Officer in early 2023. In 2006 Dan developed a computer networks and security course in the Colby Computer Science department and taught intermittently over several years as a visiting instructor. He continues to offer independent study to students pursuing research in the field of computer, network and information security. Prior to coming to Colby, Dan worked for a large North American Tier-1 Internet company as a network backbone engineer. He has previously worked in IT departments at the University of Colorado at Boulder and George Mason University. Dan is an advocate for integrated technologies and information privacy, believing that it is possible for the two to effectively coexist.
