Personal Information

Professor Linfield teaches music history and directs the Colby Collegium Musicum, the early-music ensemble on campus. In the past she has performed with the Boston Camerata and the Boston viol ensemble. She received her Ph.D. in musicology from Brandeis University. Prior to joining the faculty at Colby she taught at the State University of New York at Stonybrook and at Yale University. Her critical edition of Buxtehude’s Chamber Sonatas appeared in 1995. She has published numerous articles on the German Baroque and her current research involves a study of the tonal language of the 17th century. She is interested in interdisciplinary topics, particularly those relating to the Renaissance and early Baroque periods.
