Patti Miller

Dr. Patti Miller is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Writing Department at Colby College, where she teaches the first-year writing seminar Monster Theory Across Genres. She holds a Ph.D. in English and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. Her research explores the intersections of writing studies and creative writing pedagogy, with particular attention to how creative writing practices and teacher identity shape first-year writing instruction. Her dissertation received a Promising Future Research in Composition Award for its examination of how creative writing pedagogy can foster meaningful expository writing in the college classroom. Her scholarship has appeared in Peitho, where she examined feminist rhetoric in The Epic of Gilgamesh, and she has forthcoming work in Beyond the Frontier: Innovations in First-Year Composition on interdepartmental collaboration in writing instruction. Dr. Miller is committed to helping students become thoughtful, confident, and skilled writers, and she welcomes opportunities to mentor students on interdisciplinary projects, undergraduate research, and writing beyond the classroom.
