Faculty Workshop Grants
The Humanities Division welcomes applications for Faculty Workshop Grants to support the development of a book manuscript or creative scholarship. Colby faculty members with appointments in the Humanities Division and at any stage of their careers can use this Google Form to apply for a workshop grant. Successful applicants will receive up to $1800 to provide an honorarium of $600-$900 each for two to three experts in the faculty member’s field (outside Colby) to offer constructive feedback on most or all of a book manuscript in draft or on a substantial creative project that is nearing completion, including (but not limited to) an artwork, theatrical production, musical composition, or exhibition. We anticipate that book workshops will be held on Zoom. For creative scholarship workshops, it may be more appropriate for experts to engage with the work in person. Workshops typically run around 3 hours on a single day and are organized by the faculty member.
In 2025-26, applications must be received by November 15, with decisions to be made by early December. The division anticipates being able to support 2-3 projects in this budget cycle, which closes on June 30. All workshops must therefore be completed before June 15 so that honorarium funds can be distributed before the end of the fiscal year. If we receive more applications than we can fund this year, then priority will be given to faculty who are preparing to submit applications for tenure and/or promotion at the college and to faculty who do not already have funds from the college to support such an opportunity.
