Ideate and Explore Grant
Up to $500
The Ideate and Explore grant is for early stage teams. It is intended to help with a preliminary exploration to find and validate an unmet need. We invite both for-profit and nonprofit ventures to apply. We also welcome you to meet with Halloran Lab staff to strategize how best to conduct the research and determine key assumptions. Halloran Lab will try to match grantees with Colby alumni and industry experts to assist with the research.
Requirements to apply:
- Register in StartupTree
- One member of the team must have accrued 5 Halloran Points. See Halloran Lab Points documentation for more information.
- Create a “Venture” in StartupTree
- Create a draft logo for your venture and add it to your StartupTree Venture profile.
- Add teammates to your Venture in StartupTree
- Add the Venture Description Requirements to your StartupTree Venture description field.
- Complete the application (below) and submit:

- Lean canvas

- Detailed description of all 9 sections of the lean canvas
- Description of team and roles.
- Description of use of $500 in grant funds. How will you use this money to advance your idea and learning?
- Complete a mentorship session with Entrepreneur-in-Residence Jonathan Godbout and summarize key insights from this discussion.
- Conduct mentorship sessions with two additional CHaMP mentors, and summarize who you met with and what key insights you learned from these discussions.
- Description of Customer Discovery Process
- Schedule office hours with Jeremy Barron to review your application.
- NOTE: You will need to submit an update report within 3 months of receiving this grant. Use this template to update your application in StartupTree within the required timeframe.
- Eligibility
- One grant per venture per academic year.
- Venture team must have at least one currently enrolled Colby student.
