Sarah Goldstein
International Studies and French Double Major
Sarah Goldstein is a senior majoring in both International Studies and French. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Sarah chose to add French to her course of study as a way to become fluent in her country’s second official language and knowledgeable about a part of Canada’s past. Sarah was able to apply her study of the French language in “reality” when she spent fall semester of her junior year in Grenoble, France, with Swarthmore College. There, she lived with a host family that spoke no English (seen with her in the picture), and studied 20th century French literature, the European Union, and French history. She has also been able to apply her oral French skills during her summers when working with Statistics Canada on the Census 2006 (serving as a bilingual census enumerator) and with Whistler Blackcomb in her new hometown of Whistler, British Columbia, where she encountered many tourists (and co-workers) from France. This year, Sarah is working with the French and Italian Department to update and reprogram their website, making it user-friendly and helpful for her fellow students. After graduation, Sarah hopes to pursue a career in publishing, federal intelligence, or teaching.
