Basics of Using Colby Google Slides Themes

Google Slides uses a system of templates called Theme Builder (Similar to templates in Powerpoint). Light and dark themes are provided. The Colby themes provide a number of slide layout templates which can be used to quickly build a slide presentation or digital display

From the Templates page, click on the template theme you’d like to use
Navigate to File > Make a copy > Entire presentation
Rename your file and select the Google Drive folder you’d like it to live in

For ease of use, each Colby theme has a preset selection of colors
Using these theme colors helps keep presentations consistent
To select a color:
- Select text or an object
- Select the corresponding menu item (Fill color, line color, Text color, etc)
- Choose a color from the top row of colors

Libre Franklin is a Google font and is built into the theme
Font weights of ExtraBold and Normal are used in the theme
Please use this font which is built into the theme for consistency with Colby branding guidelines
If necessary go to Google Fonts to download and install Libre Franklin onto your computer

The theme includes a range of pre-designed layouts (templates) which can be used as starting points for your slides
To begin making slides:
- Select Insert/New Slide
To change the layout of a slide:
- Select Slide from the menu
- Select Apply Layout from the dropdown menu
- Choose a theme layout to use as a starting point for a slide or to change the existing layout of a slide

Pre-made layout options have placeholders for images
To insert you image in the image placeholder click on the icon and choose an option for how you want to add the image

Double-click on placed images to size and crop

Select the image
Select Formatting Options from the menu
